Have you ever heard of it? I certainly hadn't. It's a glue that when dry, forms a sealed gloss over your project. GENIUS! It's simply amazing. Every Martha-Stewart-wanna-be should run out and purchase this crafting staple.
I first discovered this little bottle of creative juice while browsing younghouselove (of course) and stumbling across a how-to guide on making the personalized, wooden signs hanging in their guest bathroom. I had always just assumed John and Sherry had purchased these signs a la flea market, Ross, TJ Max, etc. After realizing these babies were DIY, in the flesh, and could be duplicated, I bolted to ACMOORE to buy two slabs of wood, a bottle of white paint, and some Modge Podge.
MY INSPIRATION:

I knew I wanted the signs to have special meaning, just like theirs, and so I chose the place DP proposed and the street corner of the church where we were married. Next Stop: Post Net. They helped me create the idea based on my inspiration and then printed them on good old regular paper for me.
As recommended by younghouselove, I took a wet sponge to the perfectly crisp paper to wear it down a bit before attaching it to the wood with Mod Podge. It definitely created a more vintage feel, like something you would buy at the store vs something that came out of your Dell printer.

In this picture you can see how I wore the paper down with the wet sponge, and how the Mod Podge created a glossy glow on top.

Do you think John and Sherry would approve?
I love mod-podge ! I have all kinds, there is matte finish, high gloss, sparkle and they even have glow in the dark lol ! I used to use it a lot back in the day.
ReplyDeleteHi! I stumbled across your blog and became intrigued with it since I just finished a year teaching in an urban district in NJ as well. hah. I totally relate to your old stories and the three types of teachers in NJ. Anyway, your work looks amazing! I've read through your blog and you're extremely talented with the DIY! Thanks for posting! I'll be reading, hope you don't mind!
