Project Pillow

This post is for all my fellow thrifty gals who are just as upset about the ridiculous price of designer pillows as I am!

As my long-time friend and blogger observationsofatokenyankee puts it: I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with summer vacation or any time off for that matter. I enjoy the break from the chaos of my life in education, but I have a difficult time relaxing or even sitting in one place for an extended amount of time. This is the first summer that I am not working a crumby waitress job to pay off college books, a wedding or a pesky credit card bill (Damn you Victoria Secrets and your must-have bathing suits!)

Yes friends, I am off for a glorious two months before I return to full-time teaching-woo-hoo! As you know, my main focus during this time off is to finish decorating/furnishing the condo. When people ask DP what I am doing for the summer, he'll reply, "My wife is DIYing... or something." He has no clue what the acronym stands for and has never asked. That's the hubby for you. Anyway, here is a sneak peak at my first DIY project of the summer.

Check out these two "blah" pillows I scored on the cheap from IKEA.

I stuck them in my dining room on my two unused dining chairs as a temporary home until I could figure out how to incorporate them in my living room.

I bought a stencil from ACMOORE for $4.99 and a small jar of FABRIC paint. I took the cover off of the pillow, gave it a few roles of the lint brush and taped the stencil to the pillow case. (I used painter's tape.)

Next, I did some painting with a $.99 sponge brush.

VoilĂ !

If you look close, you can see that fab. Marshall's console table I scooped up last weekend behind the couch.

So there you have it-Project Pillow. What do you think?
