I often wonder if my new students will ever provide me with same entertainment that I received daily at Isle12. Sure, I get to actually teach my subject area, which is a nice change, but come on! These kids are in middle school! Bring on the fart noises and such! Just when I thought there wasn't a personality in the building, a familiar voice called for help from the back of the classroom. I sat down next to one of my struggling students and proceeded to show him how to solve the problem. What happened next can best be described as a scene from one of my favorite movies, Stepbrothers.
"You have to cross multiply and divide. Does that make sense?"
"I love you"
"Seriously, do you understand what you do here?"
"I love you."
Amongst the laughter of twenty 7th grade students was this kid staring at me in complete seriousness.
"Okay, I will take that as a feeling of you being comfortable asking me for help."
"Seriously, Ms. Mac. I really love you."
"Okay, I'm walking away now."
It didn't end there. Towards the end of class, this particular student decided to sing me a Justin Beiber song. I think maybe I liked it better when they cursed at me.
