High-Hell--yes, hell.

Make no mistake--I love me some high heels. On my 5'2'' frame, heels are a must in the workplace if I want to appear somewhat taller, or as tall, as my hormone-enriched students. Date-night, girls-night, run out to home-depot night-- heels, heels and more heels. Okay, so maybe not that last one, but you get my point.

I tried to hop on the flats trend on several occasions, but I always feel less professional and end up with major blisters at the end of the day.

When planning my wedding, I was shocked to find out brides would choose to wear flip-flops or ballet flats as part of their wedding-day attire. You're just not a bride unless you have a fabulous pair of heels under that dress!

I try to maintain a polished look even when running a few errands, and most of the time this means a heel or wedge of some kind. Don't get me wrong, I will rock flip-flops during those hot summer months, but back to school means back to heels for this girl-until this year.

Today was my first day back to school with the kiddos. Naturally, I wore some classic Express editor pants, a LOFT blouse and of course, heels. As a BSI teacher, I spend the majority of my day traveling from class to class. I didn't think much of it until third period when I realized I would rather die than walk to my next class in the shoes of my choice. My.feet.were.killing.me. Three blisters, pins and needles in all of my toes and a sharp pain shooting up my left leg into my lower back.

It occurred to me that maybe I'm too old for daytime heels. I immediately started to panic. Have I entered the slip-on loafer and holiday sweater phase of my career? What's next? Blinking pumpkin earrings? A Christmas brooch? Where does it end? At twenty-eight-years-old, I'm just getting over the devastation of realizing the juniors section is no longer "age-appropriate," and now this. It's just heartbreaking.

How about you? Do you wear day-time heels? How do you manage? Have you found a comfortable flat? PLEASE help. I'm simply not ready for flowered-ankle skirts and crocs.

  1. I cannot do heels all day during the day. The thought of it makes me cringe. I have to dress up professional every day but I either wear a small heel or flats... I find that the Steve Madden flats are very comfy!! And they are usually $40ish and thats ok with me... I wear them enough and they are comfortable so it is what it is... I also found my small heels from Madden Girl.. also comfy. Good luck girl!! Stay away from the slip on loafer lol!!

  3. I, too, at the tender age of 28 feel like I've hit a brick wall with my day-time shoe wearing fetish. I love me some Loub's, MK's and the like...but it's taking a toll on my feet and lower back.

For now, I'm sporting comfortable flats around the office. I only break out the heels if I have plans after work or for special occassions. *gasp*

PS I hope to never wear blinking pumpkins. EVER.
