Personal Touch

A person's home can reveal a great deal about his/her personal taste and style, such as modern, country, etc. But I strongly feel the best way to decorate one's home is to fill it with meaningful pieces that best represent your own unique journey. In other words, your house should tell the important story of who you are.

For example, I have seen people hang maps of the World in their homes with pushpins that indicate those places he/she has traveled. Since I, myself, have only been on one vacation in my entire life, you will most likely not see this idea in my house. I'm pretty sure people would think that one, lonesome pushpin was merely bonding my map to the wall.

At our engagement party, my mom gave us a picture of the New York Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center. I have yet to find the perfect spot for it, but I think it will certainly help tell our story.

Working on my new projects this week got me thinking what else I already have lurking around my house that holds meaning.

Here's what I found.

That tropical-looking picture is actually my bridal shower invitation. The color and theme fit perfect with the modern-beachy vibe of my dining area. I picked up a white frame from target on the cheap and made sure the matting was white as well. It holds special meaning for obvious reasons.

At our rehearsal dinner, my in-laws set up a place for people to write special messages to us or advice on marriage. DP and I love to look through them from time to time but I hate that they are tucked away somewhere. I decided to frame one of the more personal messages that reminds DP and I that we are each other's best friend.

What meaningful pieces in your house tell your story?
