Stripe it Rich

I can hardly believe I have just two short weeks of summer left. Sure, I am excited to start the school year and meet the new kiddos but you know me well enough to know I am most excited to decorate my brand-spanking new classroom (with windows!)

I am squeezing in as many house projects as I can these days so I will do my best to keep you posted.

Many of you remember my living room design dilemma and that naked wall behind my couch. I have carefully combed through the pages every design magazine on this planet to come up with an idea but it seems every time I start searching for the perfect wall decor, I find another idea I get excited about. What can I say? I am easily distracted.

Cue Small Room Decorating Magazine- my new designer eye candy of the month. You can pick one up at your local drug store. It is bursting with designer solutions to small-space decorating. My 1411 square-foot condo is itching to have its own spread!

My Inspiration:

The general goal is to elongate a space and make it feel larger. I immediately envisioned the half-wall across from my laundry area. This space was shamefully being used to drape laundry over, as this half-wall overlooks the staircase to our entryway--But not anymore!

Although I do love the bold lime-green paint color they used in my inspiration picture, I was hesitant to add another color to the mix, with a red kitchen and an open-floor-plan. Since the wall leads to the small cove-entrance to my bedroom I took the remaining paint left over from the master bedroom and headed over to my local paint store to see if they could make the original aqua-blue a couple shades lighter. Next, I measured and taped off the stripes, using frog tape.

Using a small-sized paint-roller, I painted the stripes.

After two coats of my original Miss Mac-created paint color, I pealed of the tape to reveal absolute fabulousness.

The final touch was to install a small chandelier. A girl can still feel glamorous while tossing her dirty laundry into the washer. I found this beauty at IKEA for just $39.99. It was the perfect size and gave just enough light to fill the hallway AND the entrance to our bedroom. SCORE!

I wish I had a better picture, but unfortunately, there is not a whole lot of natural light in this particular space for me to really capture how chic it looks.

So there you have it. My living room wall is still naked but my hallway is stylin'
