I've Been Cheating On Fashion With Furniture

When I was growing up I was lucky enough to have my own bedroom. I think I may have been around 12 or 13-years-old when I began rearranging the items on my shelves, which turned into rearranging the furniture, which turned into a hernia at age 14. I'm kidding about the hernia but seriously, friends, I'm still not sure how I got my 10 ft, 200 lb bookcase from one end of the room to the other, but I somehow managed. At least the bed had wheels! I think it was around that time that I developed a love for creating and decorating my own space. On my thirteenth birthday, my parents allowed me to paint and decorate my bedroom. It remains one of my favorite birthday presents-EVER!

I did some serious embellishing to my first apartment, but nothing beats decorating your first real home. I have a true passion for the process and hardly have the patience (not to mention $$) to ever be satisfied with the result. I am constantly following design blogs and reading design magazines for inspiration and DIY projects. If it weren't for the dollar ice-cream cones at IKEA, I would hardly get away with dragging my poor husband there as often as I do.

If you are like me, and watch HGTV like it's your job, you must check out younghouselove.com This blog follows the life of an adorable couple renovating their first home together. I am borderline stalking them. You know that movie Julie and Julia? Well, it's about this girl who is obsessed with Julia Child. Her dream is to have her over for dinner. Well, if I had the couple over from younghouselove, I think they might call the police. I am modeling my home to look EXACTLY like theirs. I can't help it! They have such great style!

EXHIBIT A: The "P" Picture.

I just love this idea. They took the first chapter in a book, blew it up and framed it. My new last name also begins with a P and so I immediately fell in love with this creative idea. In case you were wondering, the letter P does not begin many chapters. It took FOREVER to find. I finally stumbled across it in some random bible book from 1947. I found this awesome place in town called POSTNET. It's like Staples on crack. They helped me blow this baby up.

Here is my own version (in the making.) I'm going to hang some more pictures around it like they did. DP and I are taking a trip to South Street in Philadelphia this weekend to see if we can find some unique prints. I'm getting excited just thinking about it!
